"Being a band out of Phoenix, AZ comes with some very specific challenges that anyone who has played here in the summer knows all about. The heat, the dust, the sweat, and what the elements can do to your gear, are infamous. Luckily for us, Pig Hog holds it down in a way no one else can. Clear sound, rugged build, solid performance. If they can make it out here in the desert with Modern B.C., they can go with you anywhere, fam.”
Modern B.C. is an old-school hip-hop meets nu-metal rap/rock project created from the hot Sonoran Desert sands of Phoenix, Arizona. The band’s genre-bending songs derive from a love of the original rhyme spitters from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s, leading to when the world was first exposed to a mix of hip-hop and rap with rock and metal. Influenced by Eric B. & Rakim | N.W.A. | and Public Enemy to Kendrick Lamar | Lupe Fiasco and Tobe Nwigwe.
The lyrical compositions of frontman Atum Hunter touch on real issues of oppression, politics, revolution, and standing strong in the face of adversity. He is proudly joined by the legendary DJ Psychopat on the turntables and producer Phill Real on bass. Modern B.C.’s heaviness comes from guitarist Zak Banks, a staple in the Arizona music community who derives strong influence from punk, hardcore, and nu-metal.
This synthesis creates a brand new, yet familiar soundscape that Modern B.C. are honored and proud to share with you. Modern B.C. hopes to bring genuine connection back to the world of music. To stand beside you and remind you that standing up for what you believe in is the strongest stance you take in your life. To not believe everything you see or hear. To not always do as you’re told. Modern B.C.’s unique blend of music symbolizes this effort to fight for unity against our oppressors. To bring us back together and discover who we’re meant to be as a community. To rebuild from the ashes of the fires we, ourselves, set ablaze to burn in hope. Welcome to a new age — Modern B.C.
